Ryanair lose in-flight mobile phone operator
30.03.10
Ryanair announced a halt to its in-flight mobile phone service yesterday after a thirteen month contract with OnAir ended, and invited rival suppliers to bid for the service on its entire fleet. It is suggested that OnAir terminated the contract after it could not agree a deal to roll out the service across the budget airline's whole fleet.
OnAir was operating the service on 50 of Ryanair's 202 aircraft. It confirmed in a statement that the 2 companies could not agree on the process and timing of a full deployment. The airline said it is going to now invite other providers of in-flight communications to tender for access to its 73 million annual passengers, suggesting it was pleased with the results achieved from the service on a part of is fleet.
