Ryanair’s O’Leary 'to quit in 2 – 3 years'
29.11.09
Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary expects to retire from the Irish airline in two to three years' time. He told RTE radio ‘in two or three years' time I expect to be gone out of Ryanair.’
He has pushed out the projected date of his retirement from Europe's biggest budget airline several times, giving the same timeframe more than a year ago. He told the radio station his leaving had become a ‘moveable feast,’ adding he would like to see the takeover of Irish rival Aer Lingus - which he has twice tried and failed to achieve - before he goes.
Given that he was so instrumental in the huge growth of the airline, with its staff and company ethos reflecting his infectious management style, we find it hard to believe that he will ever voluntarily walk away from the airline. Be he is such a strong willed individual (!), he could prove us wrong.
