Big drop in Ryanair flight punctuality
26.02.10
Ryanair blamed the ‘remarkably hard winter’ for a big drop in its flight punctuality last month. 81 percent of Ryanair’s flights were on time in January, against 89 percent in the same month last year. The airline also reported a near threefold increase in passenger complaints, up from 0.88 complaints per 1000 passengers in 2009 to 2.12 per 1000 in 2010.
The Irish budget airline takes great pride in its punctuality and low level of complaints, and never misses the opportunity to call itself ‘Europe’s number one on-time airline'. Some suggest that it even exaggerates (or rather inflates) its scheduled flight times in order to boost its on time.
Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara said the airline had to contend with snow and ice over the long winter, especially during the big freeze in early January, which saw the closure of several European airports.
