Flight path changes delayed again
25.10.09
National Air Traffic Services (NATS) has announced a second postponement of plans to change flight paths and aircraft stacking areas across East Anglia, campaign group Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE) reports. The reason given for the latest delay is the lack of urgency for the changes as a result of the downturn in air travel over the past two years.
In February last year NATS published the first round of controversial proposals for new flightpaths and holding stacks across East Anglia, billed as 'the biggest ever consultation on airspace change'. However, in the face of significant opposition, NATS agreed to go back to the drawing board and re-consult on revised plans. Although scheduled for July this year, the consultation was pushed back to the end of 2009. Now, SSE reports that it will be another year before revised proposals are published.
