Ryanair slam tenfold Polish flight cost increase
25.07.08
Ryanair has called on the Polish government to reverse the massive air traffic control cost imposed by PANSA, the national air traffic control authority, on passengers to and from Poland. The Polish air traffic control organisation has increased charges for traffic landing and taking off in Polish airports by 960%, and is preparing another 40% increase for the coming year.
Michael Cawley, deputy chief executive of Ryanair, said: ‘PANSA's move to increase air traffic control charges tenfold will have massive detrimental effects on the economy, reducing levels of activity and stopping growth.’
Ryanair has decided to stop all negotiations with airports on further airline base developments in Poland as this cost increase makes certain routes economically unviable. Mr Cawley said: ’Ryanair will develop its business where costs are reducing and competitiveness is increasing and, for the moment, that does not include Poland.'
