Ryanair push for quick airport sale
22.10.09
Lawyers for Ryanair backed the Competition Commission in rejecting claims by BAA that the inquiry that lead to the decision that it must sell of Gatwick, Stansted and either Edinburgh or Glasgow airports was flawed. The airline greeted the sale of Gatwick Airport yesterday with fresh calls for a quick sale of Stansted, its biggest base.
Daniel Jowell, for Ryanair, told the Competition Commission Appeals Tribunal yesterday that it might be true that the regulator insisting on a two-year timeframe for the three airport sales could cause BAA financial loss. But he said that this had to be balanced against the possibility that a longer timetable would damage the aviation industry and consumer interests.
