Ancillary revenues up 43% at airlines

Airlines saw a 43% jump in ancillary revenues in 2009 , according to a report by Amadeus. The report shows 96 airlines worldwide earned €11bn from ancillary sales such as check-in baggage, in-flight refreshments and commission from airport parking and hotel bookings, up from €7.68bn the previous year.
Budget airline easyJet saw the biggest leap in ancillary revenue, up from €212m to €608m, closing the gap on Ryanair, who saw only a €38m increase to €663m. The two budget airlines were the only European carriers in the top 10 for ancillary sales - Ryanair was fifth and easyJet sixth.
