Ryanair delays UK / Ireland flights to pick up stranded passengers
22.04.10
Ryanair will not operate flights between Ireland and the UK today, in order to use its aircraft to fly stranded passengers in and out of mainland Europe. Michael O'Leary, the budget airline's boss, said most passengers travelling between Ireland and the UK could opt for ferries, allowing it to put on extra flights across the continent.
Mr O'Leary said he expects some delays over the next few days before Ryanair is able to return to a normal schedule, and added that he expects the cost of disruption to flights caused by volcanic ash clouds over Europe will be around €42 million, as long as it can flying without disruption from tomorrow.
