Stansted gets A380 approval
18.07.10
Stansted has won approval to take massive Airbus A380 planes from Emirates on divert in a move that could offer enormous long term potential for the hub. The airport has received permission from the CAA to take Code F aircraft, including the Airbus A380.
The permission allows airports with big enough runways, available stands and flight slots – backed by the right level of service capability – to take the world's largest wing-size planes if they are forced to divert as a precaution or if the scheduled destination airport is unavailable.
While this is unlikely to offer an immediate upsurge in business, it does offer long term potential. The ability to take for Code F aircraft allows Stansted to bid for superjet business – both passenger and freight – from the airlines that use the giant Airbus planes.
