Mirror wants 'tin pot' Ryanair boycott
13.04.10
The Mirror newspaper has called for holidaymakers to boycott Ryanair this summer because of the low-cost airline’s decision to charge passengers as much as £10 a bag (for a return flight) more for flights in July and August.
News journalist Fiona McIntosh stated it was 'outrageous to introduce an additional fee at the only time parents with school-age children can take a summer holiday'. She also accused Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary of ‘crucifying cash-strapped families.’ She added: ‘O’Leary treats us like fools. But when we boycott his tin pot airline, who’s the fool then?’
A Ryanair spokesman said the airline wants to ‘incentivise’ passengers to travel light during the summer peak. It struggled to deal with hold luggage last year, with lots of passengers missing flights from its main Stansted base. It would appear that it has chosen to profit from its lack of employees, rather than recruiting extra to cover the summer peak.
