Basel flights axed by Ryanair
10.11.09
Ryanair will close its six routes from Basel Airport on December 2 after the Swiss airport refused to lower its charges to reflect the lower fares being paid by passengers during the current recession. This move will result in the loss of 18 weekly Basel flights - including from Stansted - and 250,000 passengers per annum.
The airline said it had offered Basel an additional 13 weekly flights and 200,000 new passengers if it reduced its charges. Basel rejected this offer and Ryanair's routesfrom Alicante, Cagliari, Stansted, Marseille, Porto and Stockholm will cease from December 2. Passengers affected will be emailed directly by Ryanair and provided with a full refund.
