Computer failure causes chaos

Stansted suffered an IT failure this morning that caused the closure of internet and automatic check-in desks, the Register reports. A reader said systems had been down since the airport opened and staff were forced to check in luggage in manually, and hand write baggage labels and boarding passes, causing very long queues.
The reader was amused to hear a woman in front of him ask staff if they had tried rebooting (standard IT solution - switch it off and switch it back on again !). By 08:30 the systems were up and running, but a accident on the M11 near the airport within half an hour of this caused further chaos for passengers using the airport this morning.
