Successful appeal for Ryanair air rage passenger

A Latvian man convicted in Sweden of a drunken rampage on a Ryanair plane has successfully appealed his jail sentence down to a fine. The 33-year-old man was flying from Stansted to Latvia with the budget airline in the summer when he caused an emergency landing in Sweden with drink fuelled actions, including threatening a passenger and attempting to open a cabin door.
Gothenburg District Court sentenced him to eight months in jail in October after he was convicted of violent resistance but cleared of an air traffic sabotage charge. However, the Court of Appeals reduced the sentence to a $500 fine, The Local reports
The man told the district court he suffers from a fear of flying and drunk beer before boarding the flight, continuing to drink from a bottle of vodka when onboard. The man said he had only hazy memories of the incident.
