Irish pilots union boss receives O'Leary apology
08.05.10
Michael O'Leary, the chief executive of Ryanair, apologised to the head of the Irish Airline Pilots Association as part of an agreed settlement of a defamation action yesterday, RTE reports. The case arose out of a Prime Time programme broadcast in 2006 in which Mr O'Leary described Evan Cullen as a 'failed Aer Lingus pilot'.
Yesterday in Ireland's High Court, counsel for Mr Cullen revealled that the case had been settled and an apology would be read out. Mr O'Leary was not in court, his senior counsel Martin Hayden read the apology on his behalf.
In a statement Ryanair said: 'Michael O'Leary immediately offered an apology when this issue was first raised back in October 2006. This case was settled when a charitable donation was agreed at a level significantly below the legal cost of spending a number of days in court.'
