Ryanair passengers up 17% or down 6%
07.05.10
Ryanair said yesterday that it carried 6.2m passengers in April, up 17% from the same period a year earlier. However, the budget airline's figures are based on 'booked passengers', and 'includes up to 1.2m passengers who were booked to fly between April 15 to 22 but whose flights were cancelled due to the closure of much of European airspace.' Remove 1.2m passengers from the figures and it would have carried 5m, 6% down on last year.
Its load factor, a measure of how full an airline's planes are, improved to 83% from 82% (again on a 'booked' basis). In the year to the end of April it carried 67.4m passengers (or 66.2m if you remove the 1.2m) with an average load factor of 82%.
