Passengers down 8 percent at Ryanair
06.12.11
Ryanair passengers fell by 8 percent in November as it grounded eighty planes and introduced the first capacity cuts in its history. The budget airline carried 4.68m passengers compared with 5.06m last year. Its load factor was steady at 80 percent.
Chief Executive Michael O’Leary said in May that Ryanair would ground 80 of 300 planes over the winter season as higher fuel costs made parts of its network unprofitable. November's passenger fall was not as bad as the airline expected; it thought passengers would be down by 10 percent.
In the 12 months to the end of November Ryanair had 76.7m booked passengers.
