Ryanair flight 'almost ran out of fuel'
06.06.10
A Ryanair plane with 138 passengers and 6 crew aboard was 30 minutes away from running out of fuel as it made an emergency landing in bad weather, the Mirror reports. The Spanish pilots' union has called for an investigation into the airline's operations over the incident.
The Boeing 737 from Stansted aborted two attempts to land at Alicante and was diverted to Valencia, 20 minutes air time away. The pilot put out a Mayday call to the control tower to clear the runways and landed safely.
Spanish aviation investigators found the central fuel tank on the plane was empty and two other tanks held just 910 kilograms after the drama on May 14. A Spanish pilots' union spokesman told the newspaper: ‘Ryanair needs to improve its fuelling policy.’
