Ryanair passengers up 19 percent
05.08.08
Ryanair announced today that it carried 5.66 million passengers last month, a 19 percent (900,000 passenger) increase compared to the same month in 2007. However, the budget airline's load factor - a measure of how full its planes are - dropped by one percentage point to 89 percent
The airline said in a statement that it is confident that 'traffic growth will remain strong as it continues to offer passengers the guaranteed lowest airfares and no fuel surcharges this winter.' It added: 'these strong growth figures prove that low fares travel is growing rapidly as competitors raise their fares and fuel surcharges.'
Stephen McNamara, Head of Communications, said: ‘Our latest passenger figures show that we are rapidly growing passenger numbers this year. The most significant thing about today’s figures is that we carried over 15 million passengers in the last 3 months. Passengers are increasingly attracted to our guaranteed lowest fares and our promise of no fuel surcharges ever’.
In the 12 months to the end of July, Ryanair carried 54.19m passengers with an average load factor of 81 percent.
